Minn. Museum Owner Remembers Richard Widmark
SUNRISE, Minn. (AP) ―
A Minnesota man who runs a museum in honor of Richard Widmark is remembering the late actor.
Wade Olson is a construction worker from Sunrise, Widmark's birthplace in eastern Minnesota. Olson is such a fan of the actor that in 2003, he raised enough money to start the Richard Widmark museum.
Olson says Widmark was not able to make it to the museum's grand opening in August 2003, but he says the actor welcomed Olson and his wife in his Connecticut home when the two showed up unexpectedly on Christmas Eve that year.
Widmark spent only a year in Sunrise before his family moved, but Olson says Widmark told him he was always proud of his Midwestern roots.
Widmark starred in crime dramas such as "Kiss of Death" and in westerns. He died Monday at age 93.
Sunrise is about 45 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
