With the winter Minnesota has endured already, couples are looking for activities they can do indoors. Many have tried ballroom dancing.
Cindy and Jeff Nehrbass are among those who love dance. It brought them together in college when she was a dance major and he was an instructor.
"I went up and asked if he knew any dance partners to attend a dance with me, and he said he was available," said Cindy Nehrbass.
Now married with two children, the two teach dance despite a hectic schedule. She is also writer and he's a Lutheran Pastor. When asked if there are any rules against dancing on Sunday, he laughed, "As long as it's done after church."
The Nehrbasses own a studio in St. Louis Park. Students of all ages learn everything from the tango to the country two-step.
The couple said dance lessons are a great way for couples to connect away from the workday grind and from chasing down their children.
"We don't get a lot of time just the two of us," said mother of three Sharlene Romero. "We have an hour once a week just to spend with each other."
As a result, Sharlene and Franco Romero are currently getting more in step on the ballroom floor every week, but they're taking home more than just choreography.
"We actually laugh a lot more, kid around and find ourselves practicing on the kitchen floor and living room, whenever we have a chance to mix it in," said Franco Romero.
Ask the students, and they'll tell you dance fever is catching, especially when what's going around is the rhumba.
When they dance, the Nehrbasses move with poetry and symmetry. After 17 years of marriage, their favorite moments are still arm in arm on the dance floor.
"It's more romantic and it's just a special time together," said Cindy Nehrbass.
"Dancing was how we met and what's been keeping us together," said Jeff Nehrbass, who won the U.S. and World Pro-Am Championships in 2005 with one of his students.
So if you're looking to warm up the winter, or spice up your week, take their lead. If nothing else, it'll keep you on your toes.
