North Dakota's Industrial Commission has invited Minnesota legislators to see what power companies in the state are doing to cut down on carbon dioxide emissions.
The Industrial Commission is made up of Gov. John Hoeven, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. Commissioners say they want Minnesota lawmakers to see the Great Plains Synfuels plant near Beulah, which captures carbon dioxide and ships it to Canada for use in enhanced oil recovery. They also want the lawmakers to see other plants' pollution control projects.
Minnesota DFL State Representative Bill Hilty of Finlayson is a co-chairman of the Minnesota Legislative Energy Commission. Hilty says he would like the Minnesota commission to look at the CO2 capture facilities in North Dakota, but given the state's budget constraints, he's not sure a tour is possible. He says the invitation likely will be discussed this week.
