Report Endorses Clean-Energy Economy For Midwest

(AP) A report prepared for governors of 11 Midwestern states advises them to use their natural resources and manufacturing base to build a clean-energy economy.
  
The document will be presented next week as the Midwestern Governors Association convenes a jobs and energy forum in Detroit.
  
It follows up on goals the governors set in 2007 for creating new jobs by making the region more efficient and using more alternative energy sources.
  
The report acknowledges the Midwest will continue to rely on coal, which presently generates nearly three-quarters of its electricity.
  
But it calls for further development of technology that captures emissions of carbon dioxide from burning coal and stores it underground, instead of releasing it into the atmosphere.
  
Carbon dioxide is a leading cause of global warming.
