Sen. Candidates To Hold Debate Next Sunday

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Senator Norm Coleman, DFL challenger Al Franken and Independence Party challenger Dean Barkley will participate in a debate next Sunday in Rochester.

Coleman, a Minnesota Republican, is seeking re-election after one term in the Senate. He is facing a tough challenge from Franken, a former comedian.

Barkley served briefly as a senator to fill out the remaining weeks of Senator Paul Wellstone's seat at the end of 2002. Barkley had a strong showing in a recent poll, garnering 13 percent.

The three candidates shared the stage at a Senate candidate forum at the Farmfest agriculture expo in Redwood Falls last month.

Norm Coleman was born in New York City in 1949. Al Franken was born in New York City in 1951.
