Poll: Coleman's Lead Over Franken Slipping

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― A new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll suggests Independence Party nominee Dean Barkley may end up the deciding factor in the Minnesota Senate race.

According to the poll, 13 percent of likely voters favor Barkley, a number that factors in the eroding support for both Republican Sen. Norm Coleman and DFL challenger Al Franken.

The numbers show Coleman's lead on Franken shrinking from its 7 percentage points last spring.

Since May, Coleman's "unfavorable" ratings have risen from 33 to 45 percent. Franken's have also gone up from 39 to 46 percent.

Barkley just became the Independence Party candidate after last week's primary.

The telephone survey of 1,106 likely voters has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
