Outdoors Amendment Opponents Unveil 1st TV Ad
ST. PAUL (AP) ―
Opponents of a proposal to raise the Minnesota sales tax to fund outdoors and arts programs have unveiled their first television commercial.
The ad highlights how the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, St. Paul Pioneer Press and St. Cloud Times have come out against the proposed constitutional amendment, which would increase the sales tax by three-eighths of 1 percent for 25 years.
The ad features former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams, chairman of the No Constitutional Tax Increase campaign. In it he says everyone wants to preserve natural resources, but Minnesota doesn't need an $11 billion tax increase to do that.
Brad Biers is a spokesman for the amendment opponents. He says the ad will run statewide.
Ken Martin is campaign manager of Vote Yes Minnesota, which is promoting the amendment. He says 40 percent of tested waters are polluted, and the amendment would cost the average Minnesota family less than $5 a month.
