Pro-Coleman Groups Ignore Positive Ad Plea

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Political groups that support Sen. Norm Coleman in his re-election bid continue to air ads that target his opponent Al Franken despite Coleman's request that they stop.

Both the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce released ads Tuesday that cast Franken in a harsh light. Coleman put out a press release asking the two groups to stop.

But a spokesman for the U.S. Chamber tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press the group plans to keep running the ad. Coleman can't legally do anything to stop groups supporting him from running anti-Franken ads.

In an interview Tuesday on Minnesota Public Radio, Franken called Coleman's decision to halt negative ads a "gimmick."
