Hillary Clinton Enjoys Super Bowl At St. Paul Bar

ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton spent a portion of Super Bowl Sunday at Dixie's On Grand in St. Paul and it was pretty clear who she was cheering for.

"We've got two great contests: We have the Super Bowl tonight, we have Super Tuesday. I want New York to win both," said the New York Senator as she entered the bar.

A media blitz and a sea of supporters welcomed Clinton into Dixie's. She stopped frequently to autograph shirts, footballs and even a handbook she wrote more than 30 years ago.

"I actually got her to autograph a thing I got on eBay. It's a handbook on legal rights for Arkansas women she wrote back in 1977," said supporter Megan Thomas.

Clinton also did her best to appeal to her young voters.

"She said 'happy bat mitzvah' to me because my bat mitzvah is in a couple months," said 12-year-old Danielle Appleman.

Clinton also spent a few minutes speaking with Kelema Lee of Bloomington. Lee works on Clinton's campaign and has talked with the presidential candidate a number of times. She feels the New York Senator is ready for the White House.

"The other candidates are good now, I'm not knocking anyone. But I personally feel that she will get the job done," said Lee.

Clinton was able to watch the end of the Super Bowl at Dixie's, and she left a happy Giants fan around 9:30 p.m. She flew back to New York Sunday night and will campaign in Connecticut and Massachusetts on Monday.

Dixie's owner Peter Kenefick said he isn't sure why Clinton chose his establishment. He was given a 24-hour notice that Clinton and her supporters would be coming to his restaurant.

In all, about 350 people gathered at Dixie's Sunday night. Kenefick said the last time his bar was that crowded was when former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev visited St. Paul and Dixie's in 1992.
