RNC Committee Reaches Interim Fundraising Goal

ST. PAUL (AP) ― The host committee for the 2008 Republican National Convention says it's met another financial goal.

The host committee had an interim goal of reaching $14 million in cash and in-kind contributions for next year's convention in St. Paul. A committee spokesman says they've hit that mark that and are in good shape.

The committee needs to raise about $60 million to help cover costs connected with the convention, which will be held September first through fourth at the Xcel Energy Center.

The committee says it's met all of its interim goals and faces another one in two months.

The money will be used for temporary construction, preparations for the thousands of news media personnel, bus transportation for delegates and promoting the Twin Cities.

According to GOP.com, the Republican Party was born in the early 1850's by anti-slavery activists and individuals who believed that government should grant western lands to settlers free of charge. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected as the first Republican Party president.
