Minn. Native Finalist For Wayne State Presidency

DETROIT, Mich. (AP) ― A search committee has recommended a Nebraska doctor and university administrator to become Wayne State University's next president.

The Detroit university announced Thursday that Dr. Jay Noren is the finalist to replace the outgoing Irvin Reid as head of the 33,000-student school.

Noren is founding dean of the University of Nebraska's College of Public Health. Before that, he was chief academic officer, graduate college dean and deputy to the president.

The Minnesota native earned undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Minnesota.

Wayne State said Noren will visit Detroit on Monday and Tuesday and said Wayne State's trustees will meet Wednesday "to give formal consideration to Dr. Noren's candidacy."
