Almost 60 Minn. School Districts Prep Voter Levies

ST. PAUL (AP) ― Fifty-seven Minnesota school districts will ask voters in November to pass a tax levy for extra classroom dollars.

The Minnesota Department of Education provided a preliminary rundown Thursday of districts with questions on the ballot. Districts were supposed to notify county auditors and the state last week of their intentions.

The Minnesota School Boards Association posted a list of the districts, with levy requests as high as $1,400 per pupil in Ashby. Some districts are asking voters to approve more than one levy, bringing the total number of property tax proposals to 74.

Last year, there were 68 ballot questions seeking property tax levies for general classroom needs. Less than half passed.

Nine school districts also plan to ask voters to raise their property taxes for new or refurbished buildings.
