The University of Minnesota is giving three professors its highest honor, naming them regents professors.
University President Robert Bruininks says year after year the regents professors represent the best and brightest in their fields, and the 2009 selections are no exception.
There are now 30 regents professors.
The professors are Bruce Blazar, chief of the university's pediatric bone marrow transplantation program; professor of geological sciences Thomas Johnson and chemistry professor Lawrence Que Jr.
The university says Blazar is considered one of the foremost physician-scientists in his field in the world. Johnson is an expert in the evolution of large lakes. Que is an internationally acclaimed scholar in a field of biochemistry.
