St. Olaf Moves Forward With Radio Station Money

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (AP) ― Officials at St. Olaf College in Northfield say a judge is giving the school fewer restrictions on how to use money that was once donated to the school's radio station.

The radio station, WCAL, was sold to Minnesota Public Radio in November 2004, and MPR turned it into "The Current."

The college had been restricted in how funds originally donated to the radio station could be used and sought legal guidance.

In a ruling this week, Rice County District Judge Gerald Wolf lifted some of those restrictions.

St. Olaf will be able to use some of the funds for activities at the college related to activities WCAL had previously provided. Officials say that could include live Internet broadcasting of daily chapel and worship services from campus.
