A group of students have raised money to put solar panels at Mayo High School and three other schools in the Rochester area.
Now, the students want to raise $1 million by September so schools nationwide can also go green.
The Olmsted County Solar Initiative is comprised of Rochester area high school students. The initiative is led by two Mayo High seniors.
In April, the students began trying to raise $30,000 to put a solar energy system at Mayo High. But they raised $125,000 -- enough for solar panels at Mayo High and three other area schools.
The initiative is asking that interested high schools raise $10,000 for their panels, and the solar initiative will contribute $26,000.
