Teacher Allegedly Slips 2 Girls Naughty Notes

(WCCO) A Minnesota teacher is on leave after being accused of slipping sexually suggestive notes into two students' lockers.

Marty Bartels teaches music at Buffalo Community Middle School. On his Facebook page, he says he is a kid at heart and always will be.

He has worked with the school's band program for 28 years, but on Wednesday afternoon, school officials told him to stop as an investigation into the source of the notes continues.

"We felt it was a serious enough situation. we always keep the students in mind first and foremost and their safety and concerns. we definitely took this issue very seriously to investigate further," said Laura Barta, of the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District.

Around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, school officials got word two seventh-grade girls received sexually explicit notes. When they turned over those notes to the school, they said they had no idea where they were from.

For reasons that are not yet clear, Bartels was questioned and put on paid administrative leave. He's hasn't been charged, but the Buffalo Police chief says there is likely enough evidence to do so, though those charges would not likely come down for a few weeks.

The school district sent a letter to parents Thursday telling them their kids are safe.

"They shouldn't worry about the situation that has arisen. We are definitely taking it into serious care and taking care of the matter," said Barta.

Police say they don't think it went beyond the notes or that other students may have been involved. Bartels has said he could not offer comment about what happened at the place he's worked for almost 30 years.

Although the notes were on pen and paper, Buffalo Police will look at Bartels' computer and text messages. They will also talk with parents before making any charging decisions.
