Schools Also Have Stake In Upcoming Election

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) ― Candidates running for city office and school board in Minnesota aren't they only ones stretching for Tuesday's finish line. School funding measures are also on the ballot.

Nearly 60 Minnesota school districts have tax levy requests on the ballot. They're seeking extra local property tax money to supplement state and federal aid.

Education Minnesota teachers union president Tom Dooher planned to discuss the impact of the measures at a news conference Thursday.

Some districts are asking voters to approve more than one levy.

Last year, there were 68 ballot questions seeking property tax levies for general classroom needs. Less than half passed.
