Two American students at Minnesota colleges were named Rhodes Scholars on Sunday.
Brian Krohn is a senior chemistry major at Augsburg College, and Ashley Nord is a senior in global studies, physics and astrophysics at the University of Minnesota.
Krohn and Nord were among the 32 Rhodes Scholars for 2009 selected from 769 applicants. They will study at Oxford University in England next year.
Krohn, of Cloquet, is Augsburg's first-ever Rhodes Scholar. He is interested in research in biodiesel. Earlier this year he presented some of his research to members of Congress.
Nord, of Rapid City, S.D., plans to pursue a doctorate in condensed matter physics at Oxford. She hopes to pursue a career in biophysics.
Last week, Macalester College announced that one of its students, Jamaica native Michael Waul, had been awarded the prestigious scholarship.
