Minn. School Scrambles For Space

BROWNTON, Minn. (AP) ― Officials in the Mcleod West School District are scrambling to find space to hold classes after finding dangerous deterioration in an aging school.

Interim Superintendent Tony Boyer says deteriorating grout in the walls of the 1922 addition of the K-through-12 school in Brownton is causing the walls to bulge.

He says the school board decided this week to err on the side of caution and not allow classes to be held there.

The situation isn't a big surprise, but he says it comes at a bad time with there being just two weeks before the start of school.

The district has two options: find somewhere else in the community hold classes or send the students to a neighboring school district.

Boyer says the district is still studying the problem, and will make a decision next week.
