It's the final week of classes for the small south-central Minnesota district of McLeod West in Brownton.
Superintendent Tony Boyer says students and staff are finishing the year with mixed feelings.
The district was forced to close after voters in November rejected a levy needed to cover the costs of a crumbling infrastructure and other debts accumulated by the school district.
The district was projected to be more than $2 million in the red at the end of the school year, which is about two-thirds of its overall budget.
The current McLeod West School district will be divided into the surrounding school districts of Glencoe-Silver Lake, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, and Buffalo Lake-Hector.
Boyer says he may retire at the end of the year after 39 years in education.
