Man, 78, Embarks On Trek For Scholarships

(WCCO) A Bloomington man began a heck of a journey on Monday, taking off on a cross-country trek to raise money for scholarships to St. John's University.

Cyril Paul hopped on his bike Monday morning. The 78-year-old will ride from Minnesota to California; a total of 2600 miles.

Paul is from Trinidad and started a scholarship foundation in the 1990s in the hopes of helping students from the Caribbean receive educations in technology and environmental engineering at St. John's.

"I want engineering students to come here and get to learn something about the difficulties of collaborating with the atmosphere and other people and other organizations to go green. To make the world a safer and better place," Paul said.
