Law School Fundraiser Takes Back Financial Appeal

ST. PAUL (AP) ― A University of Minnesota fundraiser is apologizing for an appeal to alumni that turned out to be based on faulty information.

The fundraiser asked about 100 alumni for a donation of even $1 in an effort to raise the school's ranking in U.S. News and World Report.

But it turns out the magazine's rankings don't count alumni participation.

The fundraiser acknowledged the mistake and sent a letter of apology to the alumni who received the appeal.

The university has promoted its law school as a "top 20" destination, but in March it slipped to No. 22 among national law schools in the U.S. News and World Report rankings.
