Forest Lake Lockdown Over, Students Safe

FOREST LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) ― Forest Lake High School and Century Junior High School were locked down Friday morning after a teacher at the latter saw a suspicious male enter the building.

As of 9:15 a.m., the lockdown had been called off at both schools. All students are safe.

This lockdown was reported at about 8 a.m. Friday. According to principal Steve Massey, a teacher at Century Junior High School across the street from Forest Lake High School saw a man in his early 20s walk into the building.

They tried to catch up to him, and then he ran over to the high school.

Massey was told and they immediately put the school on lockdown. Massey said they had about half the staff and a few students inside at the time.

Students stayed in the classrooms with the lights off while police searched the school. All of the buses were diverted and students were told they couldn't get in and were directed away from the school.

Authorities did not find the man nor do they know why he was in the school. No one saw a weapon.

School started about an hour late. Massey said teachers and students responded quickly and he was impressed at how they handled the situation.

One student said she tried to get into the school at 7:45 a.m. and was told the building was on lockdown. She said she overheard talk of a stranger in the school with a weapon.

The student said she saw a number of police cars on the scene and lots of officers. She also saw some students sitting in school buses outside the school.
