Crumbling School To Close After Levy Fails

BROWNTON, Minn. (AP) ― A crumbling K-12 school located about 65 miles west of the Twin Cities will be closed after voters rejected an operating levy.

The McLeod West school district's school building in Brownton is 86 years old. Portions of the building were closed earlier this year for safety reasons, and high school students were sent to a neighboring school district for classes.

School officials say McLeod West will either have to consolidate with neighboring districts or the county will dissolve the district completely, forcing students to find a new place to learn.
