How To Rescan For Channels On TV
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
The Federal Communications Commission is reminding everyone to do periodic
channel scans on their televisions to make sure they are receiving all possible channels as the transition to digital television nears.
On June 12, 2009, all full-power television stations, including WCCO-TV, will switch to broadcasting on a digital-only signal. Analog-only television sets with the traditional "rabbit-ear" antennas will no longer work.
In order to get ready for the transition, people will need to have one of the following to continue watching over-the-air television after June 12: a digital-ready TV, cable or satellite or a converter box.
For those choosing the converter box option -- which you can learn more about by
clicking here -- you will need to a channel scan to make sure you're getting all the channels. The FCC is also recommending you scan frequently, since new digital signals are going on the air all the time.
To Do A Channel Scan:
-Run the "scan" function on your converter box or digital television set. It's usually on the remote control, labeled "set-up" or "menu". Consult your owner's manual if you need further assistance.
-Once the scan is complete, you should be getting digital channels through your existing antenna.
The FCC has a Web site set up here you can see which channels you should be receiving in your area.
