Shot Deputy Recovering From Brain Bleeding

MAHNOMEN, Minn. (AP) ― A Minnesota sheriff's deputy who was shot in February has undergone emergency surgery to correct brain bleeding.

Mahnomen County Deputy Chris Dewey had the surgery early Tuesday. He was in serious condition at a Colorado hospital, where he was moved for rehabilitation in early March.

Sheriff Doug Krier says Dewey will be in intensive care and in an induced coma for a few days, but his family is optimistic about recovery.

Krier says he spoke with Dewey's wife, Emily, and the family "doesn't feel it was a setback."

The 26-year-old deputy was shot twice on Feb. 18 while investigating a suspected drunken driver. A nine-hour standoff ensued before two suspects were arrested. Both are charged with multiple felonies.
