Police: Uniformed People Tried To Enter Homes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Minneapolis Police have organized a personal safety workshop after two separate incidents where people dressed in police uniforms apparently attempted to invade the homes of elderly people.

Police said they received two calls earlier in the week from people claiming the people in uniform arrived unannounced at their homes and asked if they had an emergency. Once told there was no emergency, the uniformed people then asked to be let in to use the telephone.

The incidents happened in Prospect Park and Windom Park.

Police remind residents to remember a few basic safety measures. Don't let strangers inside your home, install peepholes on your doors, ask for identification from delivery people and, if possible, begin a block watch.

The two free self defense and personal safety workshops offered by police will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday, May 17 at 2 p.m. The April course will be held at Waite Park (1810 34th Avenue Northeast) and the May course will be at Audobon Park (29th Avenue and Buchanan Street Northeast).

Minneapolis Police request you RSVP for either course with your area crime prevention specialist.
