Judge Commits Man Accused In Truck Stop Stabbing

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) ― A Clay County District judge sentenced a Canadian man charged with nearly stabbing a man to death at a Moorhead truck stop to the Minnesota Security Hospital.

Judge Galen Vaa ruled Monday that 32-year-old Harmit Bhangu is mentally ill and dangerous and committed him to the secure hospital indefinitely.

Bhangu has already been found incompetent to stand trial for repeatedly stabbing the Montana man and assaulting a police officer in January.

Two psychologists testified that Bhangu heard God order him to kill Dale Morigeau, but also believed he was acting in self-defense.

Dr. Paul Reitman says Bhangu suffers from severe hallucinations and hasn't been able to distinguish between fantasy and reality. However, he says with medications Bhangu may recover.
