IRS: Petters Had Offices Sweeped For Surveillance

(WCCO) The government provided more evidence in the Tom Petters fraud case Friday.

Witnesses described how Petters worked his $3.5 billion dollar ponzi scheme by lying about the resale of electronics and TVs.

A witness from the Internal Revenue Service described the raid of Petters' offices in September last year. More than 350 boxes and bags of documents were seized that day. The documents included promissory notes and forged documents.

One document revealed that Petters hired a company to do a sweep of his offices for any hidden surveillance equipment back in 2003. No bugs or cameras were found.

The trial will continue on Monday with another top witness. Larry Reynolds was a Petters colleague who pleaded guilty already. He has been mentioned frequently during the trial as a convicted felon and former member of the mob. In fact, he was in the Witness Protection Program the whole time he worked with Petters.
