Police: Thief Took $63,000 From RNC Delegate

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) ― Minneapolis police are lowering their estimate of the value of goods stolen from an delegate to the Republican National Convention earlier this month.

A police spokesman says the officer who wrote the initial report placed the value of the stolen property at $120,000, but a later inventory put its value at $63,050.

After the media reported the higer figure, Denver lawyer Gabriel N. Schwartz said that only $50,000 worth of his property was stolen from his room.

The 29-year-old Schwartz, who is single, was a Colorado delegate to the RNC. He says he met a woman in the hotel bar and they want back to his room.

She made him a drink and that's the last thing he remembers. He believes he was drugged.

Among the stolen goods was a $30,000 Vacheron Constantin watch and a $20,000 platinum ring with a blue and white diamond.

Schwartz spokeswoman Christine Burtt says the attorney believes the discrepency came from a communication problem with the officer who took the report.
