Two Texas men charged with illegally possessing Molotov cocktails ahead of the Republican National Convention could remain in federal custody until their trials.
Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis on Wednesday ordered that 22-year-old David Guy McKay and 23-year-old Bradley Neil Crowder, both of Austin, remain in the U.S. Marshals Service's custody.
The decision came a day after a federal magistrate judge ordered each free on $25,000 bond. The U.S. Attorney's Office had requested a separate detention hearing by Davis, which was held Wednesday.
Attorneys for Crowder and McKay could later argue for the release of their clients ahead of trial, but Davis set no limit on how long the pair can remain in custody.
Authorities accuse Crowder and McKay of planning to target law enforcement during the convention.

The Republican National Convention was held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul from Sept. 1 through Sept. 4, 2008.
