A 59-year-old man shot and killed his wife and a St. Michael man before turning the gun on himself in a case involving an online swinger's club, authorities said Wednesday.
Investigators with the Sherburne County sheriff's office said they think Gary D. Heald of Zimmerman killed 47-year-old Rory S. Zitur then killed Heald's wife, 56-year-old Deloris L. Heald.
Neighbors can't believe what happened. Pauline Kleinke just moved in and said she's shocked after she heard.
"You think you know neighbors and stuff, and find out you might not know them as well," Kleinke said.
Just before 11 a.m. Tuesday the Sherburne County Sheriff received a call that Deloris Heald had not shown up for her shift as an on-call nurse.
"Apparently Deloris was a prompt employee so it was out of character for her not to call in or not to call work," said Capt. Don Starry with the Sherburne County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies went to the house and didn't see anything wrong. But just two hours later, the bodies of the Healds were found in their basement after their son found a note from Gary Heald indicating that he had killed Deloris Heald and another man.
Officials said the note mentioned a "Rory." A search of Gary Heald's cell phone led them to Zitur.
Investigators say Zitur and Deloris Heald met through an online swinger's club three years ago. The three had been spotted together in their neighborhoods before.
Investigators say Zitur and Deloris Heald met through an online swinger's club three years ago. The three had been spotted together in their neighborhoods before. Starry said the three knew each other, "through some kind of chat line."
Wright County authorities went to Zitur's home in St. Michael and found his body about 6 p.m. Tuesday. He had been shot.
Investigators are waiting on autopsy results to determine just when all three died. The last anyone heard from Deloris was 7:30 Monday night and its possible Gary Heald mowed his lawn Tuesday morning before killing himself. All three died from gunshot wounds.
