Edina Student Charged With Pointing BB Gun At Peer

EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) ― An Edina High School student was charged Wednesday afternoon with pointing a BB gun at another student.

Alexander Jerome Minn, an 18-year-old senior at Edina, was arrested Monday night for assault and making terroristic threats.

Investigators said the incident happened Monday afternoon in the school's parking lot.

According to the criminal complaint, a boy and girl were arguing when Minn approached the boy, held a .177 Beretta BB gun against his head and told him to get away from her.

No one was injured in the incident, but replica guns are banned on campus.

According to Minn's attorney Marsh Hallberg, Minn will miss his finals this week and won't participate in graduation next Tuesday. He said Minn was a former football player and honor student.

Hallberg said Minn pulled the gun because he thought he was coming to the girl's defense.

Hallberg also said Minn used "macho" language during the incident and called Minn's reaction "overkill." According to the criminal complaint, Minn told the boy, "You better watch your ------- back."

In interviews with police, Minn admitted to threatening to blow the boy's brains out.

Minn is the son of former Minneapolis City Councilmember Steve Minn who declined to talk about his son's arrest and said he no longer lives at his home.
