Man Donates Special Tricycle To Girl After Theft

MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) ― A young girl whose special needs tricycle was stolen earlier this month is once again pedaling around the neighborhood thanks to a one-time neighbor's generous donation.

Anna Fletcher is a 7-year-old girl in Mankato who has a neurodevelopmental disorder which can cause a loss of balance.

She gets around with the help of a special tricycle that helps her strengthen her core development. It also helps Anna deal with issues of hyperactivity by allowing her to burn off extra energy.

But that tricycle, which cost about $450, was stolen right from off the family porch. The Fletcher family still has no clue who would've taken it. It's been missing ever since.

But now Anna's parents say a man from Sartell, Minn. offered to buy Anna a brand new tricycle. He used to live in their Mankato neighborhood when he was in college.

Anna's mother Kari Fletcher said Anna has been riding her new tricycle non-stop.

She added the family received a number of e-mails and phone calls from people offering to help, and the owners of a local bar offered to take donations for a new tricycle for Anna.

Kari Fletcher said it is comforting, as a parent of a child with special needs, to know people in Minnesota care so much. She said she wouldn't live anywhere else.

The recent theft was actually the second time the tricycle was stolen. A year and a half ago it was removed from their porch overnight. It was discovered the next day by a neighbor who found it in their yard.
