Trial To Begin In State Park Worker Murder

LUVERNE, Minn. (AP) ― The man accused of killing a state park worker in southwestern Minnesota more than seven years ago goes on trial Wednesday.

Randy Swaney is charged with killing Carrie Nelson during a May 2001 burglary at Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne, where Nelson worked.

Swaney was serving time in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for an unrelated conviction when authorities announced that DNA evidence linked him to the slaying.

Jury selection is set to begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Rock County District Court in Luverne.
