Man Pleads Guilty To Rape Outside Minn. State Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) ― A Newport man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old acquaintance after he left the Minnesota State Fair with her last fall.

In court on Tuesday, 23-year-old Cory Alan Leyde admitted that he had sex with the girl and that he knew she was younger than 16.

The plea agreement calls for Leyde to serve a year in the workhouse, pay restitution if ordered and register as a sex offender.

The criminal complaint alleges Leyde and the girl ran into each other at the Fair on Aug. 22. The girl went with him to his car to get something to drink and he allegedly pinned her atop a picnic table and raped her.

He then told her not to tell anyone, the complaint says. Sentencing is scheduled for July 17.

Leyde faces as many as 30 years in prison and $60,000 in fines.
