Man Charged With Rape Near State Fairgrounds

Cory Alan Leyde, 22, has been charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with an alleged rape outside the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Charges have been filed after a 15-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted after leaving the Minnesota State Fair Friday night.
Cory Alan Leyde, 22, has been charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim ran into Leyde at a concert at the Grandstand. She said she knew him as they were from the same hometown.
At about 9:30 p.m., Leyde allegedly asked the girl to come to his car so they could get something to drink. The charges state she followed him. She said there was a companion with them, but he left once they got to Leyde's car.
According to the charges, Leyde sexually assaulted her on a picnic table near his car. She said she screamed and hit him in an attempt to get him to stop.
Leyde allegedly told her "nothing happened," and told her not to tell anyone. The victim immediately ran away and told a friend what had happened.
Examinations performed at Regions Hospital revealed evidence of a sexual assault. The results of testing by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are pending.
If convicted, Leyde faces as many as 30 years in prison and/of $60,000 in fines.
