Brooklyn Center police are looking for a man who shot two people at a bus station. It happened at the Brookdale Transit Station just before 1 p.m. Saturday. The station is across the street from the Brookdale Shopping Center on Bass Lake Road.
Police said a man pulled out a gun inside the station and shot two men. One victim was shot in the leg and police don't think he was the intended target. The other victim left the bus station after being shot and walked across Bass Lake Road to the Brookdale Shopping Center.
"We were at the food court at the Brookdale Mall and people are just eating, watching this guy full of blood," said witness Ryan Lafave.
Lafave said he called 911 when he saw the man walk into the mall. Lafave said the man was bleeding badly from his stomach.
"His buddies were carrying him. Then they put a few chairs down for him to lie down and he was pretty much out of it. He didn't even want to go to the hospital, but he definitely needed to go to the hospital. He must have been shot multiple times," he said.
Both victims were taken to North Memorial Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. Police are now relying on several key witnesses and video tape from the station's security cameras to catch the shooter.
In the meantime, riders said they are scared and a little angry.
"Bringing a gun into a public place like this and firing off a couple rounds and hitting an innocent bystander, it doesn't make sense," said Allen Sanchez.
Chad Knutson said he felt bad for the victim who seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"That's pretty scary. You are trying to get from one place to another, trying to get home and you get shot. That's always bad news," he said.
Police said both victims are expected to recover from their injuries. The shooter ran away, but a Metro Transit spokesperson thinks several people got a good look at him. Police shut down the building for a couple hours and used a Metro Transit bus to interview those witnesses.
Buses were never re-routed during the investigation. Riders had to wait for their bus outside instead of inside the transit station while the investigation was taking place.
