A transportation director for a Minnesota school district has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a student, according to court papers.
Kevin David Jones, 47, the transportation director for the Sibley East School District, is charged with several counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for having an intimate relationship with a now 16-year-old female for more than a year.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Sibley County Court on Monday, Jones first met the girl in the summer of 2006 and their relationship started as a friendship when Jones told the girl "she reminded him of his daughter."
In summer of 2007, the girl told police the relationship turned intimate after Jones approached and kissed her at the school's bus garage where most of the sexual encounters occurred.
At one point, in the fall of 2007, the girl's parents became concerned about her relationship with Jones and filed a restraining order. Jones fought the restraining order and asked the girl to lie during the trial.
The relationship continued throughout the school year where the two would sometimes meet at the Gaylord School in the morning before classes started.
In August 2008, the girl told Jones they could only be friends but he did not stop contacting her, according to the criminal complaint. On Sept. 29, the girl went to police to report the sexual relationship.
Jones has been charged with five counts of first-degree sexual conduct which comes with a penalty of up to 30 years in prison.
