A spokesman for Gov. Tim Pawlenty says the state is required to let former 1970s radical and longtime fugitive Sara Jane Olson serve her three-year parole in Minnesota.
Spokesman Brian McClung says Pawlenty doesn't have the authority to deny Olson from serving her parole in Minnesota. He says Pawlenty is sympathetic to a Los Angeles police group trying to keep her in California.
Minnesota is part of the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision, a formal agreement governing the transfer of parolees between states.
Olson served seven years in prison in California for attempted bombings of Los Angeles police cars in the 1970s and the shooting death of a bank customer in 1975. She was part of the Symbionese Liberation Army and was arrested in St. Paul in 1999 after living there as a fugitive for 25 years.
Olson is scheduled to be paroled on March 17.
