Schmidt is being sought on a charge of assault in the second degree.
Ramsey County Sheriff's Office
Police in St. Paul say quick processing of forensic evidence led them to re-file a charge against a man in the wounding of a 14-year-old boy on Fourth of July night. Police have said the shooter may have been upset about some fireworks going off in his neighborhood.
Police and paramedics were called to the area last Saturday about 9 p.m., and the boy was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the neck.
Police said Friday that testing confirmed the gun recovered at the home of 49-year-old Cary Francis Schmidt was linked to bullet casings in front of his home and the bullet that hit the victim.
The testing normally takes several months but was expedited at police request.
Schmidt is being sought on a charge of assault in the second degree.

Police said they had reason to believe Schmidt had been angry about the noise the fireworks were making.
