Pedestrian Run Over By Suspected Drunken Driver

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― A Minneapolis woman is in jail accused of driving drunk and hitting a man at a bus stop.

Kirsten Driscoll, 49, was arrested after police say she ran up on the sidewalk and hit 48-year-old Christopher Iverson just after midnight on Sunday.

Iverson was standing near the intersection of 39th Avenue South and East Lake Street when he was struck. Police said Driscoll also ran into a Metro Transit bus shelter.

Claudette Mastro, Iverson's mother, said her son moved in shortly after her husband died. And, as he did every night, she said he cooked her Saturday dinner before he stepped out.

"We got through eating and he said 'I think I'm going to go down and get a pack of cigarettes' and he said 'I'll be back' and I said fine," said Mastro.

Mastro said her son never made it back from the corner store. She said Iverson was talking with an old friend near the bus stop when he was hit. That friend called her to tell what happened.

"She jumped the curb and she came on the sidewalk ... He just flew through the air and like I said his shoes just flew off," Mastro said the family friend told her.

Driscoll may be charged with criminal vehicular injury.

Iverson has severe head trauma and is not responsive. He is listed in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.
