The St. Paul campaign offices for Sen. Barack Obama were vandalized early Sunday morning, according to police.
Police say Barack Obama's Minnesota campaign headquarters in St. Paul had three plate glass windows and a glass door smashed early Sunday morning.
Police arrived at the Democratic senator's headquarters about 1:15 a.m. A report says vandals threw bricks through the windows and door and splattered paint on the outside and inside of the building.
One person was at the headquarters at the time of the incident but was unharmed.
"We're here working very hard on this campaign, so we're here until all hours of the night. There was a staffer inside when it happened. He was downstairs in the basement, came running up but by that time they were already gone," said Nick Kimball, Obama Campaign Spokesperson.
There were no witnesses and police are still trying determine the motive. St. Paul Police are working with the Secret Service on this investigation, since there have been threats made on a John McCain campaign office in Denver.
"There was a fake letter sent to the McCain office in Denver. And so we just want to make sure there aren't any possible motives, whether it's political or otherwise, we want to make sure we've covered all our bases," said St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington.
No arrests have been made and the police are asking for the public's help to find those responsible for the vandalism.
This is the first time an Obama office has been vandalized in Minnesota, though other campaigns have been targeted. The vandalism did not slow down activity at the office. Campaign workers were already back to business before clean-up was even complete.
"This is something that happens on campaigns from time to time. It goes with the territory," said Kimball.
He said the door has been replaced, but the windows have been boarded up until the glass can be replaced in the next few days.
There are no plans to operate any differently at the Obama campaign offices in Minnesota.
Harrington says he's not too concerned about more such attacks during the Republican National Convention next week. He said the city will be well covered with officers and the department has tried to work with protesters so they may get their message out legally and peacefully.
