Police Looking For New Brighton Murder Suspect

NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (WCCO) ― Police are still searching for the man who they say was involved in a fatal shooting in New Brighton, Minn.

Officers were dispatched at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the 1400 block of 21st Avenue Northwest in response to a call that a woman had been shot. When they arrived, they found a 48-year-old woman had been shot in her stomach.

The woman was taken to Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minn., where she died just after 7:30 Thursday night.

Police said that the suspect shot at the woman's 17-year-old daughter too, but she was not hit.

Police say the suspect knew the woman who was killed. Officials also say know who he is, but they aren't releasing his name.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Department and Roseville, Mounds View, and Fridley Police Departments are assisting in the search for the suspect.

"Until he's in our custody we certainly worry about what could happen. Again, he's likely armed, likely armed with a handgun, has already demonstrated some violence. And we just hope that if he turns himself in or if somebody happens to see him let us know," said Bob Jacobson, New Brighton Director of Public Safety.

Police said the man is 21-years-old and he is likely in possession of a handgun. He was driving a Toyota Corolla with a Minnesota license plate of XTX 016.

Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to call 911 and should not approach it or the suspect.
