Jurors deliberated for one day before arriving at a guilty verdict in the case of a murdered Minneapolis mother and son.
Katricia Daniels and her 10-year-old son Robert Shepard were killed in their south Minneapolis home last June.
According to investigators, Daniels was stabbed 193 times and beaten with a golf club. Police said the murderers smashed a TV set on Shepard's head so there would be no witnesses to the crime.
Seventeen-year-old Stafon Thompson was found guilty on nine counts. He pleaded not guilty and blamed co-defendant Bryan Flowers for the crime.
Joe Williams found his girlfriend, Katrcia and Shepard dead when he came home from work.
"Justice has been served but the grieving is still here," said Williams.
According to court documents, Thompson said Flowers wanted money so he attacked Daniels. Flowers said Thompson wanted her car so he attacked and killed her. Thompson was apparently friends of Katricia Daniels' teenage son.
The jury sentenced Thompson to life without parole.
"We are very hopeful this verdict can be the first step in a long healing process for this family. That's what they need," said Mark Griffin from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
Flowers is scheduled to be tried later in March in Hennepin County.
