Mother Arrested In Son's Murder, Charges Coming

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) ― A South St. Paul mother has been arrested and will soon face charges in the murder of her 10-year-old son.

Patricia Becht, 42, was transported from United Hospital, where she was recovering after the incident, to the Dakota County Jail on Thursday.

Her 10-year-old son Michael Becht was found murdered in their home on the 700 block of 1st Avenue South late Monday afternoon. Police responded to the scene after a family member was unable to make telephone contact with anyone inside the house.

Police also found Michael Becht's 11-year-old sister Erica unconscious but breathing. She was taken to Children's Hospital, where she is still recovering.

On Tuesday, police announced they were focusing their investigation into Michael Becht's murder on Patricia Becht herself.

The reason police didn't arrest Patricia Becht immediately thereafter was due to her medical condition. She was held on police watch at United until Thursday.

The Dakota County Attorney's Office said they plan to file first-degree murder charges against her on Friday, when she's due to make a court appearance.

Those charges are expected to shed more light on the manner of Michael Becht's death.

Police said an autopsy has been performed on the boy, but results are not currently available.

Another of Patricia Becht's daughters was not home at the time of the incident. The Dakota County social services offered to coordinate care for both her and Erica Brecht.
