Police ID Suspects In Officer-Involved Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― Authorities have identified the suspect who was shot and wounded by Minneapolis Police early Sunday morning and the officers involved in the shooting.

The incident began at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Park Avenue South and East 19th Street. Officers arrived following a 911 call of shots being fired in the area.

Once there, they stopped two suspects. One surrendered to officers without incident, but the other took off.

Minneapolis Police said the second suspect, who has been identified as 18-year-old Chebo Chomilo, began firing at officers near East 14th Street.

Police said none of Chomilo's shots hit any officers. An officer managed to hit Chomilo, who arrested for probable cause second-degree assault. He is still being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center for a non-life threatening injury.

The first suspect, who surrendered to police, was identified as 19-year-old Jules Chomilo. He was arrested for probable cause receiving and concealing stolen property and is currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail.

The officers involved in the incident have been identified as Officer David Campbell from the Second Precinct, Sergeant Paul Hatle from the Fourth Precinct and Officers Christopher Cushenbery, Sean Lessard and Chad Meyer all from the Third Precinct.

Police said Meyer was the officer who shot Chebo Chomilo and the other officers are considered witnesses. All of the officers are still on paid administrative leave which is standard in these cases.
