Police Continue To Investigate Stabbing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ― The death of a Minneapolis teenager this weekend is still a mystery.

Tim Jackson, 17, died early Saturday morning near 28th Street and Hiawatha Avenue South in Minneapolis due to a single stab wound.

Police found Jackson while responding to a report of a robbery nearby. The robbery victim told police they were confronted while walking in the Midtown Greenway.

On Monday, balloons, flowers, teddy bears and handwritten messages made up a memorial at the spot where Jackson was found fatally stabbed around 1:40 a.m. Saturday.

A steady stream of friends and relatives came to the spot to show their respect and share memories of the high school senior, who was recently accepted into college. He lived in the Little Earth Community.

"Around the Little Earth Community and everybody around there loved him a lot," said Jackson's cousin, Stacy Cloud. "So this is what we're doing. They showed their love."

Cloud last saw him two days before he died. She stopped by the scene this morning with Curtis Jackson, a friend of the victim.

"This was my first visit here so I've come to realize, you know, what really happened here," she said. "I've heard about it. But it's starting to actually sink in now. He was just too young."

While Jackson's loved ones mourn, Minneapolis police continue to investigate what led to the stabbing.

A key question is whether or not it was related to the robbery that happened close by on the Midtown Greenway.

The greenway was a busy place Monday but bicyclists like Carl Hultman said they avoid it at night.

"People I know that use it to commute, don't ride it at night," he said. "They'll take surface streets."

Police will say very little about the robbery or the stabbing.

Sources say two teens were involved in the robbery in which the victim got punched. A 17 year old is now in custody and is expected to be charged Tuesday with the robbery.

A request for the transcript of the 911 call from the robbery victim was denied by police because of the investigation of Jackson's death.
