Sunshine and 60 degrees is a rare thing to come by in a Minnesota November. But as people enjoyed the Midtown Greenway Saturday morning, they also had questions about what happened near the path overnight.
"People in Minnesota, they get out on a nice day like today and you forget about all the bad things that can happen to you. But you have to be on guard," said bicyclist Andy Kirn.
Just after 1:30 Saturday morning, Minneapolis police responded to a report of a robbery near 28th Street and Hiawatha Avenue. While investigating the robbery, they found a young man in his late teens lying nearby with serious injuries. He was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died.
Police are trying to determine whether the robbery and the teen they found are connected, or are two separate incidents.
Either way, it's making bikers and walkers think twice about being on or near the path at night.
"It's kind of scary because it's something that happens close to home," said walker Zeke Cato.
When the weather is nice Cato can be found walking the Greenway. But he won't be out there in the dark because of something that happened a while back.
"One of my friends had his bike stolen. He was knocked off his bike," said Cato.
That incident, and now a possible robbery and homicide make it a little harder to enjoy the Greenway.
"I think it is more dangerous at night, especially since some of the parts of the path aren't well lighted," said Cato.
Minneapolis Police Sgt. William Palmer said the teenager's injuries were not self-inflicted or accidental. Officers are following up on leads but have not made any arrests.
Police are asking anyone with information about this case to call 612-692-8477.
