Police Union Lawyer Asks Mpls. Chief Be Investigated
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―
Sources tell WCCO-TV an attorney with the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis has asked Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan be investigated for "willfully" violating the state's data practices law.
The attorney, who represents Sgt. Charlie Adams, wrote a letter to Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek earlier this month. Sources say the letter refers to comments Dolan made to the news media in December 2007. At the time, Dolan said Adams had been transferred from the homicide unit for "insubordination."
Adams was transferred after he contradicted his supervisor with public comments about the murder of bicyclist Mark Loesch.
The data practices violation would be a misdemeanor. If ultimately charged, Dolan would be the first Minneapolis chief in recent history to be charged with a misdemeanor of this nature.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office would not comment on this case.
Adams is one of five African-American officers who've filed a lawsuit against the City of Minneapolis and Dolan over what they claim is discrimination against African-American officers.
